Now on Netflix: Sadie's Last Days on Earth (2016)

Sadie's Last Days on Earth (2016) - Written and Directed by Michael Seater; Starring Morgan Taylor Campbell, Clark Backo, Ricardo Hoyos, Munro Chambers, Paula Brancati, Helene Joy.

By Kenny Howell

A certain charm carries you through this pretty standard high school fare with a twist.

Sadie (Morgan Taylor Campbell) is a pretty unique young lady in that she has become a survivalist, fearing that the apocalypse is coming in two weeks. She has to prepare herself for survival after a mix of earthquakes, super volcanoes and tsunamis destroy most of the Earth by frequenting her local survival supply shop. But also she has to take care of some things in her high school life, repair some friendships, and do things she has never done like kiss a boy.

Writer-Director Michael Seater creates a charming tone throughout the film, helped by the performance of Campbell, but there isn't a ton to it other than that. It meanders a bit as Sadie works through her issues, and only occasionally really get to Sadie's problems, which are a way of dealing with her own fears and psychologically issues.

Despite all of that, and the lull in the middle, Seater and Campbell have created a world that is definitely well-controlled and has a confident flow. That is definitely more than a lot of high school comedies bring these days.

Sadie's Last Day on Earth is now streaming on Netflix.
