Maybe the best cast of any TV show ever in one of the stupidest TV shows ever.

And stupid isn't an insult. Stupid can be great, and much like the original film from 2001, this is great.

Fourteen years passed from that film about the kids and counselors of Camp Firewood and the debut of this two years ago, but instead of showing how the characters aged over those 14 years, the show decided to make this a prequel, a year earlier than the previous film with the same actors playing those younger roles.

In addition to that idiocy, it is found out that toxic sludge is on site at Camp Firewood, hidden behind a government conspiracy that goes all the way to President Ronald Reagan. That is the main story (and includes one character being turned into a can of vegetables), but the rest consists mostly of the camp goers trying to get laid.

Best among those is once again Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), the gifable master, who plays the aloof biker kid Andy. He was the best part of the original film, and he is the best part about this. It's amazing how talented and charming the guy is that he can play a romantic or dramatic lead, a superhero as well as this totally ignorant kid. He is a national treasure, and maybe one of the best actors of our generation, but won't ever get the notice he deserves.

However, he isn't the only show here, as you can just look at the cast above and see the huge amount of comedic talent on display. It all clicks and even though the absurdism isn't for everyone, it is definitely for me.

Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp is currently streaming on Netflix. A new season, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, starts Aug. 4, also on Netflix.

Rating: ***1/2
