Now on Netflix: Long Nights Short Mornings (2016)

Long Nights Short Mornings (2016) - Written and Directed by Chadd Harbold; Starring Shiloh Fernandez, Ella Rae Peck, Paten Hughes, Christine Evangelista, Natalia Dyer, Addison Timlin.

By Kenny Howell

A man has no trouble connecting with women, but problems making it last in this story of his endless search for some sort of a relationship.

Long Nights Short Mornings is essentially a series of one act plays. Some work, most do not, and leave this feeling a bit hard to get through.

Part of that has to do with the main character James. He is kind of a jerk to women, purposefully pushing them away until he is depressed and lonely, then searching for another who may break him out of it, only to push them away again. He definitely seems like a sleazeball on occasion, so it is hard to care about his loneliness. For some reason, the women can't resist him, which makes it a bit more perplexing.

Even though it ends up a bit repetitive, the segments that do work (they are broken up into sections titled with whichever girl he is currently chasing), are because of the chemistry Fernandez has with his on screen partner. Unfortunately these are few and far between, and the few fleeting moments of interest are hidden among the more taxing.

Long Nights Short Mornings is currently streaming on Netflix.
