Now on Netflix: F is for Family (2015)

F is for Family (2015) - Created by Bill Burr; Starring Burr, Laura Dern, Justin Long, Sam Rockwell, David Koechner, Gary Cole.

By Kenny Howell

It's always interesting to see how a comedian's material translates to a series.

Bill Burr is an extremely talented comic that has been known for pushing buttons over the years. His TV vision goes back to the 1970s where he voices the disgruntled patriarch, Frank, of a fairly normal family.

There is a screwed up kid, the good kid, and a very weird kid, and a loving wife. The show deals with family bonds, societal pressures and norms, especially during the 1970s.

There are some funny moments throughout the six episode first season, but there is a feeling that we have seen it all before. The disgruntled animated family has become the norm in comedy these days, so you need something to separate it from everything else. I don't think F is for the Family has that, despite some excellent voice work by Burr, Laura Dern (Wild) and Sam Rockwell (The Way Way Back). It definitely has its moments, but can't help but feel it gets lost in the pack.

F is for Family is now streaming on Netflix.

Rating: **1/2
