Now on Netflix: Take the 10 (2017)

Take the 10 (2016) - Written and Directed by Chester Tam; Starring Josh Peck, Tony Revolori, Kevin Corrigan, Chester Tam, Fred Armisen, Cleopatra Coleman, Andy Samberg.

By Kenny Howell

A couple of good cameos and the excellent Kevin Corrigan can't save this nearly laugh free Netflix original comedy.

Josh Peck and Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel) play best friends Chris and Chester. Chester wants to sell his car so he has money to go to Brazil, maybe forever, and Chris desperately wants to get to a concert. We follow them for a day as they try to achieve this, but things are derailed by Chris' skeezy boss, and Chester gets hung up with a crazy drug dealer.

If you want to have a zany day adventure type movie like this, you are going to need to slam the pedal to the floor to make it work. Peck and Revolori aren't the type of people that can just carry a movie on their own, which isn't to say they aren't talented. That is just not their skill set. Writer-Director and co-star Chester Tam doesn't take it to where it needs to go. Nothing overly outrageous happens, and he seems to want to fall back on dirty jokes to make it work.

Fred Armisen shows up in a wasted cameo that doesn't really allow him to do what he does, and Andy Samberg (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) might be one of the few bright spots as Chris' brother. Corrigan (Results) does his Kevin Corrigan thing, which is always good, so there is at least that saving grace. Other than that, there just isn't much here.

Take the 10 is now streaming on Netflix.
