Now on Netflix: Sacrifice (2016)

Sacrifice (2016) - Written and Directed by Peter A. Dowling; Radha Mitchell, Rupert Graves, Ian McElhinney, Hilary Rose.

By Kenny Howell

A doctor moves with her husband to a remote Scottish island, and possibly uncovers a horrifying cult in this thriller starring Radha Mitchell.

Mitchell (London Has Fallen) plays Dr. Tora Hamilton, a woman who has had trouble conceiving over the years, and looks for a new lease on life in the island home. One day while searching her new property, she comes across a hole that has something curious inside. Upon a further investigation, she finds the mutilated body of a young woman.

After talking to the authorities, they think the woman could have been there for years, but Hamilton's medical expertise gets the best of her, and she thinks it a more recent event. She starts to dig deeper and uncover some terrible truths about her new town.

Sacrifice is a pretty standard thriller that deals with some pretty gruesome stuff, though it isn't shown on screen very often. There are definitely some conveniences that move the story along, and Mitchell's Dr. Hamilton is probably a bit more crafty than the standard doctor probably would be. Still, it does work for the most part, though the big conspiracy isn't totally explored fully. There are things you can definitely pick at if you are in the mood for such a thing. But overall, it hits the notes a thriller should.

Sacrifice is now streaming on Netflix.
