Now on Netflix: Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil (2011)

Tucker and Dale vs Evil movie posterTucker & Dale Vs. Evil (2011) - Directed by Eli Craig; Written by Craig and Morgan Jurgenson; Starring Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, Katrina Bowden, Jesse Moss.

One of my favorite little seen comedies of the past several years, this one sees two hillbillies mistaken as horror movie style murderers by scantily clad teens in a nearby cabin.

Tucker and Dale, played by Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine (Someone Marry Barry), are West Virginia boys headed up to a cabin for the weekend to have some fun. However, staying nearby is a group of college kids who instantly think that Tucker and Dale are inbred murderers who love killing college kids, when in fact they are just lovable dopes. Through some very funny accidents that end up with the college kids dying, they all out attack Tucker and Dale, fearing for their lives.

Director Eli Craig gleefully plays with the horror tropes of the backwoods murderers and gets tons of laughs in the process. The kids keep ending up dead in manners that seem to fit the bill, which further spurs on their fight for survival, when really they are just killing themselves on accident. It's very funny and surprisingly doesn't wear thin, mostly because of the performances of Labine and Tudyk. Craig really hasn't worked a lot since this film, which is a surprise because this was a bit of an underground hit. He has another horror comedy coming out next year called Little Evil about a guy who starts dating a new woman whose son might be the Antichrist. That one stars Adam Scott and Evangeline Lilly.

Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil is now streaming on Netflix.

Rating: ***1/2
