This movie got talked about because of one key element. One thing I can’t tell, but you probably already know since this film came out so long ago. But what got lost in the conversation is how well constructed of a mystery this film really is.

After an IRA kidnapping goes wrong, Fergus (Stephen Rea) escapes to London and goes into hiding. He hunts down the British soldier’s girlfriend Dil (Jaye Davidson), who he had spoken about. And then…well, I can’t tell you anymore. Just trust me that it is an interesting mystery that is well crafted by Writer-Director Neil Jordan (Byzantium). This is probably his best film.

The Crying Game is now streaming on Netflix.

Rating: ***1/2
