I have never been as crazy about Pedro Almodovar as some people. I give him all the credit in the world for being original and bringing such energy to his films, but I never really feel that anything of them are great. That is all of them but this terrific film.

It is the story of two men, Benigno and Marco, who meet in a hospital where they are caring for two women, both in a coma and no hope of recovery. They bond through that experience, and their stories lead to a somewhat troubling ending. I don’t really want to give away more than that, just know that this is a very touching movie that explores, among many themes, what is means to be in love.

Like many of Almodovar's films, it is different experience than most, but this one so utterly human in such an unique way. It's a one of kind experience and still my favorite of Almodovar's works.

Talk to Her is available on FilmStruck through the Criterion collection.
