Director Phillip Noyce can do great work, and this is proof of that.

That makes it all the more disappointing when he takes on something like The Bone Collector. However, this is a fine piece of work is set in early 20th century Australia. During this time, Aboriginal children were taken from their homes and basically trained to be servants. So basically slaves. The reasoning behind this is that this will give them a chance at a better life, so they don’t have to grow up all Aborigine and stuff, but of course that is preposterous.

Rabbit-Proof Fence is based on a true story about three girls who escape after being taken from their family. They try to make a 1000-mile journey back home to their families along a fence that keeps rabbits off of people’s properties. I knew nothing about this part of history, so I am glad Noyce was able to give it such a terrific treatment on screen.

Rabbit-Proof Fence is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
