Jon Favreau has made a career at making perfectly serviceable Hollywood films. None are great, but all hit the right notes, and are enough to make you leave the theater feeling satisfied.

The Jungle Book, the live-action adaptation of the Disney classic, is exactly that. Nothing about is outstanding, but its well told and is hits the market it needs to hit, 12-year-olds.

The Jungle Book is about Mowgli, a boy who was raised by wolves. They refer to him as a man-cub, and that man part is what troubles the Tiger of their group, Shere Khan, voiced by Idris Elba (Pacific Rim).

He leaves the group and heads out on a personal journey of discovery, where he meets Ballou, this time around voiced by Bill Murray (Hyde Park on Hudson). With Ballou's help, he will grow into his own, but his old home may be calling him back for help.

The special effects are quite outstanding. Usually with animal talking movies, the mouths can look a bit out of place, but here it is perfectly seamless, and in the 4K restoration for home viewing, every little detail of the fur and faces really bring the animals to life.

The Jungle Book is now streaming on Netflix.

Rating: **1/2
