A for effort and B- for execution, I Am Not a Serial Killer definitely offers something different.

It takes place in rural Minnesota where a serial killer has been terrorizing the town. Also in that town is John Wayne Cleaver, a teenager who is fascinated with serial killers, and may be headed down that path as well. He has been diagnosed with a sociopathic disorder and admits to having homicidal urges often, most of the time against the bullies that terrorize him at school.

John tries to get the bottom of who the serial killer is, and all answers lead to a strange old man in town played by Christopher Lloyd (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest). But Director Billy O'Brien takes that concept even further, a surprise I will leave for the viewing.

I Am Not a Serial Killer is essentially a B-movie, so you can let some things slide. The John Wayne Cleaver character is a probably not completely formed as a sociopath, but he does show some signs. There are also a few bells and whistles in the movie that aren't really needed, but nothing to distracting. What it does have is a midnight movie appeal, and knows how to hit those notes pretty well.
