More like Avengers Age of Boretron, am I right?

Terrible lead aside, Avengers: Age of Ultron, the sequel to the first overbloated Avengers movie is jam-packed with stuff that isn't terribly interesting. It just seems to much to juggle to really have an effective story, and it isn't until the end that the film at least is pretty fun.

This time around, Tony Stark went and messed up. His program, Ultron, which was meant to protect the world, becomes sentient and not so nice. It quickly gets out of control and Ultron builds a plan that will destroy the world. The Avengers come together to help stop the seemingly unstoppable, and spoiler alert, they save the day.

My usual complaint with comic book movies has to do with the first film being all origin story, and not much else. The Avengers didn't have to worry about that because each character had already been set up in their own movies. However, I didn't like the first one all that much, despite the high praise. There was just too much to wrangle, but Whedon did manage to pull enough moments to make it worthwhile.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is almost devoid of that. The film doesn't really hit its stride until the climax, and that is two hours into the two and a half hour film. It becomes a long slog, and that is the exact opposite of what a comic book movie should be.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is now playing on Starz.

Rating: *1/2
