Every few years, you hear of a movie that despite good stars and talent all around, takes forever to get to theaters.

Jane Got a Gun is one of the those. It was made several years ago, and was just kind of held in limbo. After watching it, it's easy to see why. The movie itself is as generic as the title, which is a bit misleading, since Jane isn't the one doing most of the action. There just isn't much there to be excited about it. It's not necessarily bad, it's just there.

Natalie Portman (Knight of Cups) plays the titular Jane, a wife to an outlaw (Noah Emmerich) who finds her husband severely wounded. She asks her ex-lover (Joel Edgerton) to help protect her possibly dying anyway husband from a group of outlaws led by Ewan McGregor (Miles Ahead), who is playing cowboy dress up.

There just isn't much going on here other than that. Not much emotional investment, not much excitement, not much of anything. Portman and Edgerton (Midnight Special) do what they can, but there is only so much you can do when there isn't much there.

Jane Got a Gun is now streaming on Netflix Instant.
