I knew nothing about Starlet going into it. I saw that it had decent ratings on Netflix, and thought I would give it a shot. I found out two things about it that surprised me. First, that I liked it, and second, there is a bit of pornography in this film.

First things first, the movie is about Jane played by Dree Hemingway (Listen Up Philip), a wannabe actress who just wanders around all day checking out yard sales, or getting high with her roommates. She buys a vase off an old woman at her yard sale, and finds a bunch of cash in it when she gets home. Feeling guilty, she strikes up a friendship with the woman, much to the older ladies dismay at first, and learns about her life, and whether she even knows she had the money.

The movie is kind of sweet, funny at times, and is a nice slice of life picture that you expect from a very low budget indie. That makes it a bit weird when their is an actual sex scene in the middle of the movie. It isn't simulated sex, though I think a body double may have been used for the unsimulated. Not sure why the filmmaker chose to use unsimulated in that sense other than to gather notice of his film. I am not bothered by it, it just seems very out of place, and it is a bit distracting.

Other than that short scene, the movie is pretty well paced and quite enjoyable. Definitely worth seeking it out if you are not offended by that short bit of the movie.

Rating: **1/2
