Now at Netflix: The Bourne Legacy (2012)

The Bourne Legacy (2012) - Directed by Tony Gilroy; Written by Tony Gilroy and Dan Gilroy; Starring Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, David Strathairn.

The Bourne Legacy is weird.

Not really because of anything that happens in the movie, but just the whole concept.

It's not about Jason Bourne, so don't think that. Even though his name is in the title. Edward Norton's character early on in the film tells his colleagues to forget what they know about Jason Bourne, kind of a hint to the audience as well, then they go on to mention his name several more times in the movie. And once again, forget about Jason Bourne in a movie called The Bourne Legacy.

This one follows Aaron Cross, who came from the same general program as Bourne. The people behind are trying to eliminate him, but he gets away and partners up with a doctor he was kind of smitten with, played by Rachel Weisz. Together they do the things that have already been done in three other Bourne movies.

The action is not all that exciting, except the last little bit of the big chase at the end. Overall, the movie just feels like it was unnecessary. The tale of Aaron Cross didn't add anything to the Bourne story, and doesn't really stand on its own as a solid action movie.

I'm not sure why, but there is a sequel in the works.
