Now on Netflix: It's a Disaster (2013)

It's a Disaster (2013) - Written and Directed by Todd Berger; Starring Erinn Hayes, Rachel Boston, David Cross, Julia Stiles, America Ferrera.

By Kenny Howell

While it's not as bad as the title indicates, It's a Disaster is a little bit of a mess.

It's not that it is terrible, it's just so unimpressive, and doesn't really go anywhere.

It has a pretty good set up. A group of friends, who don't really like each other at the core, get together for a couple's brunch. Before they eat, they realize they have lost all connection to the outside world. There is no cable, the phones don't work. Come to find out, several radioactive bombs have been set off nearby, and there is a little uncertainty whether they are going to be OK, or if anything happened at all. Secrets start to come out, and each character reacts differently to the possible impending doom.

My biggest problem is that this is dark comedy, and it's really not funny. I really didn't laugh at all. The movie tries to go for easy "look at how ridiculous these people are" jokes, and it never really lands. By the ending, a twist to David Cross' character is kind of silly, and the actual ending is pretty much a cop out.

With the talent involved, this should have been better, but it never came together.
