Now on Netflix Instant: Hick (2012)

Hick (2012) - Directed by Derick Martini; Written by Andrea Portes; Starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Blake Lively, Eddie Redmayne, Alec Baldwin, Juliette Lewis.

By Kenny Howell

A lot of talented people end up playing caricatures in this story of a young girl trying to escape her troubled life in Nebraska.

Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass 2) plays Luli, a teenager to alcoholic parents. She decides to escape her crappy Nebraska town to go to Las Vegas. Along the way, she meets a weird guy with a limp (Redmayne) and the beautiful, but troubled Glenda (Lively). Things go horribly wrong and she must fight her way out.

The movie never gets above the artificial. It never feels authentic. Moretz does her best, and Baldwin does well with a small part at the end, but everyone else seems to be playing dress up. Everyone involved is talented and have done good work, this probably just isn't the right film for them.

Hick is now streaming on Netflix Instant.

Rating: *1/2
