Dirty Girl (2011) - Written and Directed by Abe Sylvia; Starring Juno Temple, Jeremy Dozier, Zach Lasry, Milla Jovovich, William H. Macy, Mary Steenburgen, Dwight Yoakam, Tim McGraw.

In her early career, Juno Temple used small indie movies to establish herself as a spark plug of an actress. They didn't always match her talent, but you could see how good she was.

In the movie Dirty Girl, which came out in 2011, she carried it as a high school girl named Danielle who is pretty much what the title describes. When she is matched up with a gay outcast in the school, Clarke, on a parenting project, they strike up a friendship. Danielle's mom is marrying a strict Mormon who wants Danielle to change, and Clarke's dad is trying to basically beat the homosexuality out of him. So, Danielle hatches a plan to run away and go find her Dad.

Temple (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) and Dozier make for a good team, and really keep this movie afloat when it veers off. It could have been much better, but their performances, and some funny lines make it somewhat worthwhile.

Rating: **
