Now on Netflix: The Awakening (2012)

The Awakening (2012) - Directed by Nick Murphy; Written by Murphy and Stephen Volk; Starring Rebecca Hall, Dominic West, Imelda Staunton.

By Kenny Howell

There isn't anything new or revolutionary about this horror set in England after the end of World War I, but they capitalize on what they can to make it a pretty cool little flick.

It is the typical horror story about the skeptic. In this case, Florence, played by Rebecca Hall (Tumbledown) a woman who uncovers hoaxes, being confronted with something she can't explain. It happens to be a boarding school where there has been stories of a boy ghost frightening everyone in the school.

Much of the story is ideas that have been explored before in other ghost movies, but Murphy gets the most out of it with a great performance by the always reliable Hall, and a pretty creepy tone throughout.

The Awakening is available on Netflix Instant.

Rating: **1/2
