Movie Review: Pitch Perfect (2012)

Pitch Perfect movie posterPitch Perfect (2012) - Directed by Jason Moore; Written by Kay Cannon; Starring Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Rebel Wilson, Skylar Astin, Ben Platt, Alexis Knapp, Adam Devine, Elizabeth Banks, John Michael Higgins.

By Kenny Howell

Pitch Perfect is like Glee, but with more than one funny person.

It is the about the battle of college a capella groups, the main focus being an all girl group called the Barden Bellas. After a disastrous attempt the year before which included the soloist puking all over the audience, the Bellas regroup with new members who all aren't the statuesque beauties the year before. Anna Kendrick (How to Be Single) plays Beca, a girl who wants to escape college and go to Los Angeles to produce music. She tries to inspire the Bellas to branch out and be more creative, but stern leader Aubrey (Anna Camp) wants to stick to the standards.

I realize that last paragraph sounds incredibly silly, and at times it is, but Pitch Perfect is filled with very talented, funny people, starting with Kendrick. Add to that Adam Devine (The Intern), Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games) and the fantastic John Michael Higgins (Rapture-Palooza). They fill the movie with plenty of good one liners and keep it afloat.

Rating: **1/2
