Now on Netflix: Bachelorette (2012)

Bachelorette movie posterBachelorette (2012) - Written and Directed by Leslye Headland; Starring Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan, Isla Fischer, Rebel Wilson, James Marsden, Adam Scott.

This was compared to Bridesmaids when it came out, but the better comparison is to The Hangover.

There are two reasons for that. The first is because is it goes for shock value and cheap laughs instead of being clever. "Oh wow, these girls do cocaine, how hilarious, they will do anything," is the reaction they are going for.

The second reason is it is a huge waste of talent. Lizzy Caplan (Frankie Go Boom), Isla Fischer (The Great Gatsby) and Adam Scott (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) are terrific talents that do as much as they can with the shlock they are given. They make it worthwhile at times, but not enough so.

The story is basically a bunch of high school friends getting together for one of their weddings, but things spiral out of control when the dress gets torn, Fisher's nose bleed from cocaine use gets on the dress, and that makes it hard for them to get their relationships back in order during the bachelorette party.

Like I said, the cast, which is very talented, squeezes as much as they can out of this, but it just isn't enough.

Bachelorette is now available on Netflix.
