Movie Review: Silent House (2012)

Silent House movie posterSilent House (2012) -  Directed by Chris Kentis, Laura Lau. Starring Elizabeth Olsen, Adam Trese, Eric Sheffer Stevens.

By Kenny Howell

This movie must have sounded possibly good in theory. It's a one-shot film, and it has a Blair Witch-esque found footage feel.

Except it really wasn't either. The film, while it looks like one shot, was not. And the found footage camera work doesn't work because, well, no one is holding a camera up to Elizabeth Olsen (Kill Your Darlings) and her low cut white tank top.

This movie just languishes, as the terror around the house slowly increases. Instead of growing more intense, you kind of just check out because the movie hasn't given you much in the first half. The first 10-15 minutes are interesting because of its relaxed style, but as things start happening, it never juxtaposes the first half of the film.

Then you get to the end, which I obviously won't give away, and it is equally parts confusing and cliched, if that is possible.

The only saving grace is Olsen herself, who continues to be a stunning new actress on the scene. And yes, she likes quite gorgeous in that tank top. Just not good enough to make this movie worthwhile.
